Our Favorite Fall Cocktails

Whoever came up with “sugar, spice and everything nice” certainly had winter cocktails on the brain. From spiced apples to hot chocolate, these drinks will keep you nice and warm, no matter the temperature.

Spiked Apple Cider

Nothing says fall like curling up next to a fire with some hot spiked cider. To add a taste of butterscotch, mix 1 oz of butterscotch schnapps, 1.5 oz of vodka or tequila, 1.5 oz of apple cider and 1 tsp of lemon juice in a cocktail shaker. Strain into a cocktail glass rimmed with crushed graham crackers and garnish with an apple slice.

If pumpkin is more your thing, try this cider recipe with spiced rum and pumpkin pie spice, instead. Bring a gallon of apple cider to a simmer and add one orange (zested and juiced), a tbsp of brown sugar and 2 tsp of pumpkin pie spice. Let all the ingredients simmer and blend for five minutes. Serve warm with a shot of your favorite spiced rum.

Finally, if you’re more into beer than cocktails, try an apple cider shandy while you’re watching your favorite team play this holiday (whether that’s pro football or the puppy bowl!) In a large pitcher, combine four bottles of your favorite lager with one bottle of sparkling apple cider. Chill and serve.

Hot Chocolate

This orange spiced cocoa is just the right mix of sugar and spice. Combine 1 cup of powdered sugar, 1/4 tsp ground cardamom and 1/2 cup cocoa powder in a bowl. Bring six cups of milk to a simmer and mix in the cocoa mixture. Meanwhile, combine 1/2 tsp of orange zest with a cup of whipped cream. Top the hot cocoa with the orange scented whipped cream and enjoy.

For another twist on classic hot cocoa, add 2 oz of butterscotch schnapps and ½ oz of amaretto to your favorite hot chocolate. Top with whipped cream and chocolate shavings to be extra fancy.

Cranberries

Although the cranberries aren’t always the favorite side dish during Thanksgiving, these cranberry cocktails will be the first thing gone!

For a simple shot, mix gin and cranberry juice into a tall shot glass rimmed with sugar. Add some actual cranberries to make it more fun!

If you’re looking for something a little fancier, try these cranberry champagne cocktails. In your best champagne flutes add sweetened cranberry juice, a touch of lime and champagne. Garnish with the lime and a couple of cranberries. These festive cocktails are the perfect touch to your Thanksgiving table pic on Instagram.

For a sweet cocktail, serve a pitcher of these cranberry juice spritzers. In a pitcher combine a sliced orange, 1/4 cup of sugar, 2 cups of cranberry juice, a liter of seltzer and vanilla vodka. Make sure the sugar is dissolved and the juices are combined before serving.
